That's not cause of problem. Failed bushings in first starter broke bendix.

In Y-Block-C4 adapter kit starter ring is designed to accept newer FE starter. Thanks anyway, Paul.

jyrki: Don't know if this helps your starter situation. But, 1964 & later F.E. starters engage from the front. Previous models engage from the rear, same as Y-blk starter. Newer types can damage your ring gear. (info was posted some time back by Ted)

Found the problem from faulty starter drive. It spins freely on both directions.

If someone can tell what make is that bendix from I could get parts from shops here in Finland. Otherwise I must wait answers from Flat-o-Products or John Mummert.

just to share my experiances with this conversion (well worth it)

i have a 56 f100 by the way

1   -  the mounting bolts on the truck were 9/16"   holes on the bell were 1/2" these were drilled out

2   -the dust cover that fits to the bottom of the bell has a small threaded nut welded to it  the corresponding hole in the bell is also threaded   and needs to be clearanced. this is because of the proximity of the oil pump.

3   - this one is down to me i think,  i used a TCI converter and tig welded the studs as per instructions. they must have moved  as i had problems mating up to flex plate.    sort this out on the bench it's a swine to figure out on your back under the truck

i used an FE starter and have had no problems

What kind of troubles you have with starter?

Mine is not always engaging to ring gear, (bendixgear) just spinning. Tried two different starter bodys but still same thing. Other from six cylinder and other from FE (new).

Battery got good power. Now I've been thinking that reason must be bad contact to ground. More testing follows...

Looks like a great party but its the same weekend as the Y-Block Nationals in Columbus. That has to be my first priority. I've been thinking about going out early this year and doing the Woodward Cruise too. Chuck

I purchased the c4 adapter bellhousing from Mr Mummert. (having had great luck with his intake) The Installation was great and all ligned up perfectly, except the starter wich isn't perfect yet.

So Nice to not have to battle the non-synchroed 3 speed while wrestling the non-powered steering.
