Even tough it's not a Y-Block specific question, I'm asking here, because some of the most talented Ford Guys are here, so...

Here it goes:

Anybody happen to know where to find some techical information (measuremens, drawings, etc) of Ford's speering parts?

My curiosity is based on the possible interchangeability of tie rod ends, center links, etc, from one Ford car to another.

It all started when I noticed one of the outer tie rod ends of my Galaxie had a slight play. My car is a Brazilian '74 Galaxie, but that's only the manufacturing year, because it's a US '66 Galaxie with a 292 on it, for all practical purposes. Based on that, I got to Obsolete Parts's site, and bought tha parts (all four tie rod ends, inner and outer, for a '65-'68 Galaxie, and for a '64 as well, as I'm going to change those parts on a friend's '64 as well), and the parts for the '66 are the same as the original Brazilian ones. The auto parts stores around here are selling those parts made in Argentina, and saying they are for the Galaxie, but after talking to the manufactirers in Argentina, I discovered they don't make Galaxie parts, in fact they only make Falcon, Fairlane and F-100 parts (those cars were built in Argentina too). The manufactirers in Brazil, such as TRW, Nakata, or Albarus-Dana do make those parts for the Galaxie, but in such low numbers, that's cheaper to buy them from the USA, and to pay for the mail.

To make a long story short, the parts made in Argentina are cheaper than the Brazilain parts, have the same level of quality, but probably are not designed to fit a Galaxie, and that's what I'm willing to discover.

Thanks for any imput.

I just sold a Ford interchange book on Ebay which is exactly what you need.Author is Paul Herd.Motor Books International(MBI) was the publisher if you check their website.Tells what parts interchange with what other Ford cars and years. And you are correct-many parts like steering and brakes fit several different models and years. For instance wheel cylinders for 52-54 Ford cars also were used on some mid 60's Mustangs.Have a look at Ebay listing # 8024951074.That is what you could use.

Thanks a lot!!!

I just found one at a imported books store in Rio. It's used, but the seller told me is in perfect shape, so I bought it.

When it arrives, I'll post a reply here, so anyone with a interchange doubt can askWink
