Issue #102, Jan-Feb 2011 of Y-Blk Magazine features the dyno test of a 342" unsupercharged, gas race engine. This engine had Mummert ported Iron Heads on it, not the new aluminum heads. The most interesting result was that the Mummert dual Plane intake performed better than both a modified Blue Thunder 4 Bbl intake & a Hogan Tunnel Ram. It was 20 H.P. better than the impressive looking Ram intake! And 15 H.P. over the Blue Thunder. In the past I believe J. Mummert has stated (paraphrasing) that one of the biggest impedences to producing more power with modified Iron heads, was that there was no intake manifold that could feed the heads properly. Apparently he has solved that problem with his own aluminum intake. In my opinion (for what that's worth) while the new heads get most of the attention here, for many who might have limited funds say, or possibly already have invested in modified heads, or aren't planning a complete redo of their current engine, the aluminum intake might be a great investment for a performance upgrade... By the way, the test engine, again on Iron Heads, produced an outstanding 510 H.P. @ 6900 rpm !
