Glue the gasket to the plate with a small amount of contact cement, Rick taught me that trick after mt first atempt failed. So much easier to get on and I have had no probs. BigGrin

FYI: Prestige T-Bird sells an extra thick plate gasket. Beating out the plate will help initially, but when it eventually relaxes, the thicker gasket provides insurance. I think Walt also recommended higher torque setting.

Before installing the plate to the engine, lay it on a flat surface and insure that the center hole is raised at least 1/16” up from the surface.  This will insure that the plate will tighten up enough against the outer gasket to prevent leaks at that particular gasket.  If there is insufficient clearance, then here’s a link to the reposted Walt Nuckels page that explains how to quickly fix those plates that are deformed enough that they will not tighten sufficiently.

I can't remember what (if any) torque specs are provided with the kit, but I do remember that I really had to crank down that center nut on the adapter plate to keep it from leaking. Also, not enough room to use a torque wrench with the motor in the car.

Gasket must go on dry or it will be push out by oil pressure. Mike

I am going to convert my 56 to a spin on. Got the kit. Do you anything (RTV or something else) on either or both sides of the gasket?

Thanks
