I am looking for one of the adapters for the '56 4V intake to be able to use a later model carb.

The universal adapter Speedway offers is like all the others I have found.  It tapers down from 1 11/16 to 1 7/16.  The A throttle bores are a bit smaller that 1 7/16, closer to 1 3/8.  I used to have a tapered adapter going down to the smaller A port size, but let it get away.  It had quite an angle from the top side to the bottom, to align ports, and there was also some contouring.

If anyone is using the Speedway type adapter, how has it worked out?

How about grinding the bores in the manifold to continue the taper of the adaptor and making a smooth transition?  Or a B manifold without adaptor.

John,  Just didnt want to mess up the intake for use with a 4000 carb, but also make it friendly for the later Holley. 

I have a test engine to put the intake on to check out a couple 4000 series carbs, and a 390 cfm Holley.  Since the engine wont be under load, maybe throttle bore variances arent critical.  Finding another adapter like I used to have is probably unlikely.

If a B intake should come up with a better price than has been lately, I'll pick one up.
