I dont know what I was thinking when I installed the 8 inch with 2.79 gears in my 55 and now looking for a 55 3.30 or 56 3.22 rear end to put back in it,I know where a bunch are in a couple junkyards but would like to find one that is known to be good and could use a drivesahft too.

Jeff..........I have a 55 rear end laying here in my shop that is complete with new brake shoes, wheel cylinders, lines and turned drums.I think the seals are new also.I don't know about the bearings, but I do know that it has been run a few miles and is quiet.I'd sell it for a reasonable price or I 'd be interested in trading for the 8 inch you have in your car.Problem is,it's a long way from your place to mine and shipping would be prohibitive.I also would have to check and be sure about the ratio in mine.I know it came from a sedan, but I don't know what transmission the car had.If you're interested,I'll see what the ratio is and let you know.I probably have a driveshaft, too.

I am going to a 9 inch when I put the 292 in since the original is going to make tire removal a little harder with the wheels and tires I have on it now,I am going to get a 9 inch cut down to the size of the maverick 8 inch plus the 9 inch gears are cheaper then the 8 inch.

I will have to come over and measure it but I think with a original rear end in it the rims and tires I have will be a pain to get out,I still have to let the air out of the tires with the maverick rear end and might be tighter with a original. When it still had the original rear end I had 235/75 15s on the rear on it was hard even with the air out of the tires to get them off,I might go back to steel rims and whitewall tires after the 292 is back in but its going to be when I put some more miles on the tires that are on it now. The 37 is going to get a more correct gear for a 6 cylinder and the quiet gear set from it will be going in the 55 for the time being and will look into another rear end for it as I am collecting parts for the Y block installation.
