I got to watching some of the video at the web site, it is easy to see how you get hooked on runing your car flat out on winding roads, this is not a y-block, but what a ride!      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSqYjDGNZokat

What a event this year . it seemed to be a stuggle for everybody except the leaders .

like Seppo says  " if you want to win  ( in rally ) bring a Finn"

all great guys and fun to hang out with

we finished second in class out of five starters  and 58th overall out of 120 starters

not bad for the only Ford Y-Block w/ 230 hp ahead of two other Lincoln 317 Y- Blocks

beat lots of 302's etc

power steering pressure hose  let go on Sunday , hyd stores closed , got it replased on Monday am  but could not rejoin rally till Tuesday

the last three years have finished in the top 30ish

check out video w/great sound , my 1954 Ford comes around da cornor at 6:10 into clip

http://bringatrailer.com/2010/10/30/2010-la-carrera-panamericana-la-bufa-videos/

Mummert engine ran strong all week as you can hear in the clip

which is on day seven after 3000 km

never added not a drop of oil all week

fourth year in a row plus two three day rally's in Chihuahua ,Mx

also check out photos on  www.sportscardigest.com

giddy up

I wondered if there was dirt or gravel on the corner.  I just watched it again in slomo. Odd the way it jumped away from the direction of travel. Almost like a blow out or failure on the right rear.  Anyway, glad they are ok. The branches in the windshield must have been a scare! Chuck

If you listen he eather pushed in the clutch or something broke ( poped out of gear ) ,the RPM's drop and never come back up. What a ride. the climb back up the hill would be tough also. Glad everyone OK.

Good to hear they both are ok. To my eye it looks like he had so called shoulder lock and didn't have guts to clear that situation with throttle. Ok, he came to that place a bit too fast and I think the co-driver was at sleep according that snoring on the film BigGrin

Well, when watching that over and over again, it might have been some brake related issue too? And then the panic hit...

About Carson... being second in the class where is only two competitors ain't fun, but anyhow I have a great respect to all drivers who came to the end. Having problems or not.

Giddy up, Carson! Have a safe trip back home and try again next year!

According to the blog where the Studebaker #108 crash recording was embeded - both the driver (after he woke up) and co-pilot walked away. Hairy ride.....testimony to the new rollcage spec's they've adopted. In the film - after watching a couple of times - I'm thinking he got a bit airborne (or light) and lost traction on the landing - swapped ends in a heartbeat.

Scheller and Shields got second in the Traditional Panamericana - despite the power steering hose trouble. Carson needs a sponsor that can put some aluminum heads on that 292!!!!

Ouch! Run looked very good until the end. I assume everyone was ok. Any idea what caused the slide? Chuck in NH

Some of the film clips of this race are pretty hairy......

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cirNrpW-Lys&feature=player_embedded

Pretty soon the world is going to run out of Studebakers....then the Fords and Lincolns will rule right?
