What about the Red's fenderwell headers? Do they have a performance advantage over the stock manifolds? & Do they fit a '58 Fairlane?

I know you can still pick up a set of fenderwell headers, but it seems there would be a market for some long tube headers that fit within the chassis for '54 to '62 street drivers. I have both a set of Rodworks and a set of Red's that I don't think are much better performance-wise than the stock '57 manifolds, except for the weight savings.

In a recent Y-Block issue, Jerry Christenson was planning on making a set of headers available....kinda like the Red's style, but better....don't know how that project is going....might be worth checking out.   Barry L

Thanks John. Has anyone used the headers from Obsolete & Classic Auto Parts? Part #B5A-9430/1-YBLK. They have 'Big Tubed Y-Block Headers' listed but no pic. I contacted them & they said they did'nt have any laying around that they can take a photo of to send me. Just curious.

Rams horns won't work in a passenger car.  The exhaust dumps on the crossmember under the engine mounts.

Has Ted completed the header test? I haven't seen anything about it yet. I'm anxious to see the results.
The header test is not yet complete.  Have quite a bit of random data where I’ve tried two or three sets on different Y engines but the big test where all the exhaust systems are tried in a back to back test on the same engine is yet to be performed.  Was hoping to have that done before going to Columbus but just hasn’t taken place yet.  The engine for that test is on a docking cart now and is just one set of heads away from being ready.

I believe Jerry was also working on a new header similar to the Hedman design but with better flow design. I'll check with him at Columbus. Chuck in NH

Looking for McCullouch VS57 brackets and parts. Also looking for 28 Chrysler series 72 parts. And early Hemi parts.

Looking for a performance boost.

What do you guys think of the Red's Headers??? There more in my budget. BigGrin

We should know more about the Reds with the test. If I'm not mistaken, Ted had a bottleneck with the reds headers when performing the intake testing. If it's performance you want, it's performance you're going to have to pay for.
