Charlie and I will not be attending the meet at El Mirage this weekend for a couple of good reasons. My wife Kathy and I will be taking a trip to San Diego to see my Mom for probably the last time, she has had cancer of the liver for the last two years and this week she took a big turn for the worse. She wont get out of bed and they have put her on Morphine. The other reason, which is no light matter, Charlie and his wife Corene took a nasty dive on their bicycle two days ago and are pretty banged up. He wont be able to get around well enough to load and unload the truck. I think Charlie and Corene will be OK but I'm sure prayers for them and my Mother will be appreciated. Thank you.

That's too bad. My mom has fought off cancer 3 times. She's said if it comes back, again, she's not going to fight it. It's tough, her grand kids, who are yet to be, may never meet her. In fact, the last one was liver cancer. She had to have about 55% of it removed. If it was much more, she would not have made it. Life does throw some weird curve balls. Owner/operator of a record setting Land speed truck, and Charlie gets injured on a bicycle.

Tim......Time spent with Mom is a lot more important than any old race car/truck.You'll be glad you spent all the time you possibly can with her. That's the regretable voice of experience. My prayers are with you and yours.

All my best to you and Kathy, and your family... I think I told you about my Dad, so I can understand the ride you're on. Not much else can be said, but I feel for you and your family. The dry lakes will very likely still be very dry next year...

Thanks everyone, Our family is small and close so I have spent a lot of quality time with my Mom. She has been unable to take care of herself for the last year, bills and household chores, so she has lived with Kathy and I when Kathy is not in school and my sister in San Diego the rest of the time. She has been fairly good physically but this last couple of weeks she has been in steady decline. She is 87 and had a full life so I think she is ready, and her heart is with our Lord Jesus. There is another meet at the dry lakes next month and July so don't count us out, but it will be hotter then, now I hope Charlie is mended by then.

Been there tim like most of us, its a great time for all of us to reflect on the sacrifices and efforts our parents put in to help mould what we are today. On a lighter note, i allways remember a famous mountain climber, oppenhiemer? i think! that conquered all the famous mountains of the world and was killed riding a pushbike? Best wishs for your families.
