Now that I have met Lon, and Lynn and a few of his buddies I just wanted to let everybody know how great of a time it was.
First, I was not the axe murderer he was expecting, at the end as he was dropping me off in his rod I mentioned that the "Maine"iac has now been down under so he asked why I called myself a mainiac and I had to explain that it is just a phrase for the people born and raised in Maine like the people from Indiana are known as "Hoosiers", Texas people known as Texans etc... Chuck you will have to tell us what the New Hampshire people are known as because I cannot think of that one other than a "New Englander"?
Any way, it was a great time and there could not have been better host. I was picked up the first night in his 56 Vickey which is beautiful and his wife and buddy rode in a 32 rod to Harry's Diner where a bunch of local car buffs congregate. I tried to buy a mainline Ute off a guy but recieved no answer on how much he wanted, "Nice dream".
The next day we installed the new 4 bars in his rod and puttered around in that for a while, the exhaust was a little too quite so he opened the caps on the headers, "now that was more like it". we visited another pal, I mean "Mate" of his who had a nice 32 vickey among other cars (I noticed a 64 falcon convertible sitting under one car cover) before going to dinner that evening in which I rode in his Mates 32 duece coupe with a small block 302 that drives excellent and let his wife ride with him in the Vickey which was a pleasure to feast the eyes on and listen to the Y's exhaust notes while cruising down the road behind them.
We ended up the final day visiting a mate who loves to make Ute conversions (ranchero's) among some other wonderful restorations and retro rods. A man who has a very similar heart and soul as I do, collecting parts, cars and making do with whatever is lying around.
We finished up riding in his rod back to the hotel. I must say I envy their weather, it was great riding in their open air rods, because I came back to a storm in the northeast which was supposed to be a Northeaster but turned out rain instead of snow "Thank God". Now there is still about a month before I can bring my Vickey out, let alone ride in an open air car. "That would be heaven to be able to ride all year long".
Finally, Hats off to Lon & Lynn and all their mates who provided me with the great weekend, I owe them one. Having met the furthest Y blocker away first, now if I could just get meet some of the others.
Thanks again, Bill
