Don't know the article but we did it with the "Brick", not very hard just need a spacer made from an old Y damper, and hone out the scrub SFI one. Charlie, do you know the damper part #?

I'll jump in here just in case Ted does not see this post right away. He has a new y block damper that just became available and is very reasonable in price. I don't recall the name of the mfg, but they are SFI approved and use the four bolt Ford pulley.

Royce. Check your email. Innovators West has just come on board as a supplier of SFI approved dampers for the Y. It’s essentially half the price of the Y specific ATI damper and uses a four bolt SBF pulley pattern on the front of it. These dampers are fully degreed at 5° increments around its perimeter and the 90° marks are of course larger than the rest. Between the 30° and 50° marks, the marks are in 2° increments. TDC mark itself is in the stock Y-Block position so the stock passenger car and pickup timing pointer will be in the right position. I’ve just got these in and as such, haven’t had the opportunity to test mount one of these. I’ll do that in the next couple of days. I’ll post a picture later this week.

Here’s pics of a stock damper, the new Innovators West damper, and a ATI damper.
When a belt pulley is mounted on the front of the Innovators West damper, the fan pulley and alternator/generator pulleys must be spaced forward ~¾”. Accessories must also be spaced forward when using a ATI damper, the belt alignment is also a problem so nothing new there.

Ted, What's the diameter of that new damper? Could a crank trigger(sm. block Ford 302) be mounted on there behind an alt. pulley? M/O will be sent Thurs. Barry L

The Innovators West harmonic damper is 6½” in diameter while the belt pulley is 5½” in overall diameter. Although I haven’t got to that point yet, a crank trigger designed for a SBF is expected to bolt properly to the front of the I.W. damper. To attach the belt pulley to the front of the crank trigger may require a sleeve depending upon the design of the crank trigger plate. The same lip that's on the front of a factory SBF damper is on the front of the Innovators West damper.
