A friend of mine who is not computer savvy has a 58 Fairlane which is missing the horn brush/spring from the steering wheel.

The Ford parts manual lists a replacement #B8AZ-13A821-A and is described as horn brush and insulator repair kit,

I have checked out several online suppliers in the US but can find no listing for these, does anyone know if they are available and if so who supplies them.

Failing that, any ideas on making a suitable replacement or perchance does anyone have one lying around (new or used) they would like to sell?

These cars were not sold here in Oz so there are few spares available.

Rick: Good luck trying to find that part as an OEM. I had the part #, but spent months trying to locate one for my 57 to 58 steering box conversion. Finally, Marvh from this site offered one to me, salvaged from an Edsel. Don't remember for sure if it was 58 or 59 or what model. (he may chime in here) I have not installed it yet, but it appears to be the correct item. I tried several suppliers & got info from John Gamble over at the 1957 Ford. com site, re the steering box conversion, but he had no supplier for the Brush contact assembly either. It's possible that a 59 Ford one may be the same but not for sure. Unfortunately, the early 60s Ford ones are not the same. Oddly the contact ring assembly in the steering column is available from a couple of suppliers if needed. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Thanks for the info Paul.

Hopefully Marvh will read this thread and pipe in.

It is interesting that an Edsel has the same part, it widens the availability at least.

I think the part is specific only to 58's.

Rick:

My '49-'59 kFord parts book shows that part fitting Ford passenger cars '58 and up.  Since the book only goes to '59, that should mean at least '59 is the same.  I can't reference Merc and Edsel.

Rick:

The spring was off a 59 Edsel.

If you want one I am pretty sure there is another. Yours for shipping cost.
