I went with a set of yokohama 225x70x15 on cragars, and they fit real nice. Great improvement over the old 14" rubber bands.

I'm new to the site, but excited about my building my car. I have a '57 Fairlane 500. The tires on the car are from 1982. the car was stored in a garage in WI from 1992 until 2005 when i rescued it. I was thinking about going with Hoosier Pro Street Radials. The 2 sizes i was considering were: 26.5x10.5R15LT max load 1235 or 26x7.5R15LT max load 965 My concerns are clearance / drivability / weight - any thought or recommendations would be appreciated THANKS - John

Paul, They're Streetliner Classic radials, whatever that is. I run them on the street and (@45#) use them for the PSMCDR also. The word is that the relica bias ply wide ovals are the best for pure stock. I can't prove or disprove that theorey. The fastest cars seem to run the bias plys, but the 60 foot times don't seem to be any better than the radial cars. I used them for the same reason you liked them, $65 and narrow whites. Frank

Thanks Frank, I am going to use 14" for just regular street use and with my optional Turbine Type wheel covers. I am going to set up some 15" wheels too. Which Coopers are you running, Trendsetter and Lifeliner are a couple I have seen advertised. I know you used these for Pure Street or is it Pure Stock, but what do you use for your best ET's? Thanks,

I need to put some tires on my 57. The tires on the car now have been there since 1981. They are Allstate 205 75 14's, and actually don't look bad, but I don't trust them. I want at least a narrow white stripe and don't want to pay $185.00 a tire like at Cokers. I have found 215 70 14's with an S speed rating at a few places. The 215 70 14's are supposed top be equal to 750 14's or F 14's. I couldn't find any 225 70 14's with a narrow white stripe. The stripes are .6-1" wide on all the tires. I have found Kuhmo's, Coopers, Firestone FR-380's Bridgestone Turanza's and a Yokohama's too. All of these are reasonably priced, $45-$61 dollars, except for the Bridgestones which are $85.00 and T speed rated. I would like 70 series tires, and actually the 225 70 14's, if I could find them, might be a little wide for my wheels. I would be interested to hear what others have used or suggestions. The 215 70 14's are about 26" in diameter, maybe a tad short for my speedometer? Heck, my speedo doesn't work anyway, I've been using my GPS...but I have to get it fixed.
