Chuck, I've sent articles to Bruce Young (Y-block Mag.) about y-block races in Nascar and Gasser Wars several months ago and as of yet he hasn't put them in the magazine. Hopefully pretty soon because they are great articles. One of them is out of the NASCAR offcial program 1957 which cost 50 cents in 57. I bought it off ebay for aLOT MORE and it does not help the the chevy folks at all. Example on page 5 it brakes down the the box score of 1956 nascar winners. Combined short track, convertible and grand national are as follows. Ford>52 wins. cheeevy uhg!>31 wins. Dodge>22 wins chrysler>21 wins. Mercury>7 wins. oldsmobile>2 wins and buick>1 win.

Chuck, you can go to the book store and some grocery outlets and buy The Official NASCAR preview and press guide and it will show the wins in the past and in the yeras 56 & 57 chevy does not shine at all,so much for the small blocks of that period.Look for the page Manufacturers' Champions nascar nextel cup series (1949 to 2006).

Chuck: further re your question, heres the 1957 results in brief; NASCAR - G.N. Div. Fords -27 wins; Chebies 19 wins; Olds 5. Convertible Div. Fords- 26 wins, Chebies 12 wins, Mercs & Olds 1 each. (Somehow despite winning 11 of 26 races Curtis Turner doesn't win the championship.. go figure! only in Nascar could that happen!) Short Track Div;- Fords 14 wins Chebies 13 wins & Mercury 1 win. Jim Read in a Ford win the points championship. "Fomoco wins the Manufacturers Championship". Also in the USAC- Jerry Unser wins the points championship, driving Fords & Ralph Moody is runner up in a Ford... At Pikes Peak, Jerry Unser wins the sedan class in a Ford & Nick Sanborn's Ford is 2nd. Also Unser wins the 1st Stock Car race held at the then new Riverside CA course... and heres an interesting footnote; A 57 Ford prepped by Performance Associates wins the NASCAR Short Track Championship, 3 years later, 1960 ! Three years after Ford dropped all performance development of the Y-Block...
