Carl: It's unfortunate you couldn't give us a bit more notice. Not everyone on the site is on daily. Any chance you can delay the "funeral"? Hate to see any usable vintage stuff go for scrap. We hear these horror stories far to often.. Thanks

Paul, I hauled it off this morning.I really did not think anyone wanted a 239. It was EBU 6090.I kept everything else.I just loaded up the heads block and crank.

I kind of felt like keeping the block and using it mount my drill press or something,it did have some sentimental value to me.But I can,t keep everything.

My Dad got his 54 f-100 the year I was born,1964.He always had the 223 in it.When I was 16 it was time for a rebuild and he did not have the money for it.

A neighbor had a 54 car sitting behind his barn. They pulled the rear axle to make a trailer. It was a rusty mess and had been sitting for years.

We pulled the engine (this 239)and got it running and put it in Dads truck. It ran great, but had a bottom end knock and the rear main leak liked crazy.

I found a 54 F-100 with a rebuilt 233.Which there was no way I wanted a wimpy sounding six.So we swapped engines.

I cannot believe the abuse that engine took.I remember some friends in High School talking about speed shifting. So I ask what is that? That,s when you hold gas pedal to the floor and shift as fast as you can.....................yep I did it.

I guess the only think that kept it together was point float or valve float or I used to run 50 weight racing oil because it would leak out slower.

I beat on the think for two years and the bottom end was knocking so bad...........I just knew it was going to throw a rod.

To make a long story longer....................I parked the truck and went in The Marine Corps and moved away. That was 1983.Dad pulled the engine and it set in his shop until 3 years ago when he passed away.

So after all these years I was finally able to see the bottom end.I was expecting some bearings to be spun. Not one of them was,you could shake everyone with your hand but no spun bearings.

Tough old engine.

Man, there are quite a few of us within driving distance. I wish you would have given more time. I didn't even notice the post until this morning! Somebody will need a 239.
