The way I understand it, you have to splice in the '59 inner cowl, or at least the center part of it, in the '57 to use the '59 linkage and wiper motor. This was discussed a little while ago on the '57 Fords Forever website regarding putting the '58 system (non cable) in a '57.

2x57: Are your 57 wipers broken? If not, it might be easier to clean & service them than do the 59 conversion. After multi years the cable system gets full of dirt & lacking in lubrication. It's awkward but I cleaned mine as best I could & lubed the sheaves & pivots & it works satisfactorily...Also some parts on that junked 58 may be worth saving. For instance, the 58 steering box and column is a later design, more durable & steers a bit easier. However, to avoid complications, when installing in a 57, the entire column assembly, c/w steering wheel should be used. Also, there is some demand for the 57-58- 9" rear axle, due to it's width. Also, the windshield & rear window are hard to find in good shape. (Custom series & Fairlane's are different dimensions & don't interchange) Other parts such as hoods interchange to 57s etc... And.. if you pressed down & turned the Horn ring off, on the 58, you might find the small "Horn Contact pieces" in the hub of the wheel, consisting of a spring with a wire in it & contacts, contained in a tubular insulator. If in good shape, I would be interested in giving a few $ for it. It's a quite small assembly, easily mailed in a padded envelope. Let me know if you get it & want to sell.. Thanks

my wipers were all disconnected when i got my car and im not about to try to figure out how when and where those cables are supposed to run when i think it would be easier to find another close bodied car that has a linkage system that i can make work or maybe buy one of those universail street rod wiper setups the 58 and 57 in the junkyard i mentioned are both ranch wagons there are other 57's in the same yard but these cars have been in this yard for way over 20 years they are all just about noting but picked over rust ,glass and some stainless trim for the most part the steering wheel on the 58 had been canabilized years ago in fact i found the horn button under the car laying half buried in mud the yard owner gave me the pitted to death horn button yes i know about the size of the 9 inch rears same as a 69 mustang i know cause i messured the axle in my 57 then messured the axle in my 69 mustang and was shocked
