Do you know the ratios of the T10. I suspect that the T10 will have closer ratios than the T5 but 1st gear of the T5 will get the vehicle moving a little easier. I really doubt you would notice a lot of difference 1 - 4.

It's the BW T-10 from early Mustang/Falcon---1st/2nd are close, then 3rd is a little farther(can run around town in this)or shift to 4th. KID

Mine is 2.95, 1.94, 1.34, 1.00, 0.63. Say, which 4 spd do you have? I was assuming truck granny 4spd.

Best recollection is that my 1st gear is 3.30:1 and I know 5th is .67:1. My 56 has 3.73 rear end. Would not change a thing. Good launch and runs ~2000 rpm @ 70 mph. TC
You gotta have the right tools and know how to use 'em. TC - Austin, Texas

I've run a 3.27 first with a 4:11 rear and a 27 inch tire. You're in 2nd in a parking lot. I changed to a 3:31 or so, and that worked a lot better. When I changed to the T-5 I bought the 2.98 or so close ratio with the .8 or so od, and it's worked well in my 'bird. Fairly heavy car with power everything and a 272 cam. I've got a hydraulic throwout bearing in another car, and I don't like if very well, but the pedal is short, with a short throw, and it might be the geometry rather than the bearing.

Any of them will be better than the 4spd. I think the 2.98s are the stronger ones.

I'm going to pull out the 4-speed and put in a T-5 behind my Y-block so two questions: #1-I'm looking at two ratios for 1st gear 2:98 or 3:35/3:37's,which would be best for around town stoplite to stoplite driving? 2nd--Anybody gone to a hydraullic clutch and done away with the Z-bar(more room for header clearance) and does it work on a heavy car(Courier) when launching off line?
