Paul,
If you have the time/inclination, most solenoids can be repaired quite easily (unless the coils are broken/shorted). If you like, I could send you the repair info I used to fix mine. The unpublished instructions I obtained from an old FoMoCo dealer mechanic, and the 55/56 shop manual sections are all you really need. I also built a simple test jig out of plywood, so trans. mounting not required to operate/test (it must have adequate spring resistance, or proper functioning cannot be validated). If you have a spare battery & relay, the entire system can then be bench-tested. I have found that most 6V solenoids that were tossed as defective in the past (shop manual recommendation), will still operate fine without the high current resistance due to relay corrosion.

Tero/Paul,
I emailed the info twice, reversing the addressee & CC, but mail was returned undelivered both times. Let me know if either received it, or if you want it resent (alternate address?).

I just took one apart. Not much in there. I had one of the stand bolts stripped out of the base plate and I secured it back in with JB Weld. After I was done I pulled my daily driver up and hit it with the jumper cables and it clicked so I'm assuming it's gonna work. I plan on just hooking a switch to mine and bypassing the governor and just doin' in and out of OD with a switch. Hope that will work. I did that on a '57 back in the day and it worked. Check those replies to that T-89 site on "technical". A guy put a bunch of web addresses in there regarding schematics etc.
