Anybody running a T5 with a ford tailhousing in a 53-56 F100 with a bench seat?  Can you email me or post pictures of the shifter location & trans supports? store1@battplusfw.com  In case you ask I have seen Charlies thead regarding his T5.  It is great but his F100 is a later model.  I was just giving a 87 WC T5 and am trying to determine if the shifter location will fit with in the current tansmission cover of if I need a S-10 tailhousing.

I have a T-5 in my '58, I know it's later than yours, but I don't think it will be back too far. My shifter comes out right at the front of the seat, so I just made my own shfter with a few bends in it to fit.

by the way the trans is out of an '88 turbo T-Bird, Yes it's a 4cyl. but if you're not too hard on it it should work. Mine has been in for two years and 7000 miles and no problem (same tranny in my burnout video)

     To the first poster.I have not done it but there are a few articles about putting a s-10 tailshaft to move the shifter forward.

Sorry the truck is so dirty, we just got back from El Mirage when I took the picture. Also wanted to mention, although it may be because I'm use to it, but the shifter is right where I like it and feals natural in my hand when I shift.

Tim thanks for the picture and I must agree also the shifter looks good.  As mentioned on the phone I just hope the shifter location will fit within the transmission cover.

Carl I was aware the S-10 tail will move the shifter forward.  In an effort to save money I was thinking if the ford tail will put the shifter with in the trans cover and I would not have to cut the floor board that would be idea.  Personally I think Tim's and Charlie's shifters look great but was not sure where the stuffer location was exactly on a 53-56.

Bfooter03, let me know how this works out.  I am facing the same problem w/my 56'. I am about to succomb to a 4speed t-loader but would love the gearing of a WC mustang T5.  If and when you do this please post a list of parts you used.  From bell housing to driveshaft. 

Cody I got around and did some rough measuring last night.  Appears a T5 with a Ford tail will be to long to get the shifter to fit within the transmission cover.  Mine is a 1352-155 from a 87 FORD THUNDERBIRD TURBO COUPE and the shifter looks to be about 4 inches into the floor pan.  I will keep you posted but not planning on really getting into it until late in Dec.  Bing

I checked under my '58, and I did have to cut into the floor a few inches to make the Ford tail housing work. It's been a couple of years, I forgot.

Greg thanks for the info as it may come in handy.  Cody I did find a thread on the net that is pretty detailed with pictures on how to swap out a ford tail with a S-10 tail in case you don't want to cut the floor pan.  Bing
