Thanks, FD. that's what I thought. I don't like noise for the sake of just making noise. Sanderson headers, Borla Pro XS mufflers and Borla resonators will be going on my Tbird. Although the Borla mufflers are a straight-through design, they are quieter than Magnaflow mufflers. The resonators should also help to tone it down without being a restriction. I like mellow, not eardrum-bursting loud. I'm 71, and I don't need hearing aids (I would like to keep it that way). I'm too old to go out of my way to deliberately attract attention. 

I a few in and outs on my bird, I have learned not to install the manifolds on the engine until the engine is in because there is not enough wiggle room to move the pipes into position if the manifolds are on the engine.  May be different on a sedan.

55blacktie - I can't say that there was/is any change in performance in regards to the crossover. My build is a mild one but I always thought the crossover mellowed out the exhaust note a little more.  Like, 8 cylinders resonating together rather than 2 separate 4 cylinders??

Yes the choice words do help! LOL. This Car has been a challenge from the start. Taking it apart to rebuild one of the Heads slipped of the Block and I stuck my Leg out to break the fall. Off to the Hospital for repairs. Easier to get my Leg repaired than finding a Head that broke. LOL. Just not paying attention. Live and learn!

  

I will have 2 1/4 custom mandrel-bent exhaust made for my 55 Tbird. I'm considering including an H-pipe, even though space is limited. Ted has said that adding an H or X-pipe doesn't seem to improve performance on Y-blocks. Knowing that, I'm still considering it to reduce noise/resonance without restricting exhaust flow. What effect did installing an H-pipe have on yours?

Dealing with my welded "H" pipe assembly I use my floor jack to support it at the crossover while threading the nuts on to the manifold studs.  Other tricks are to use string/wire/tape to hold parts in place while attaching other parts of the assembly. I've also used magnets to hold washers/bolts/wrenches in place. Sometimes a few bad words seem to help too....                                                                                               Forgot to mention, a "C" clamp can sometimes be placed to offer support or to clamp a piece of wood extending out like a 3rd hand.

Laying on my back under the Car trying to install Head Pipes to Manifold. Working alone though 2 People would make it Easier. Any suggestions on doing 3 Hands work with only 2? Thanks!
