I use the orange RTV in   where needed (pan, front cover, thermostat housing, etc) and it has always worked out very well.  The engines I had rebuilt (short blocks) were done by outsiders and have no idea what they used/did but, knock on wood, I don't have any rear main problems.  The information  about Right Stuff is interesting.
