If I set the timing marks at the 3 o'clock position the keys are set 3'oclock for the crank, 5 o'clock for the cam. Is this correct?

The dots on the crank and cam gears are at the 3 o'clock position as you are looking at them from the front of the engine. Twelve pins between the dots is correct. You may have to tweak ;one of the gears slightly to get both keys to align with their keyways.

It has been a long time since I have set valve timing on a Yblock. I am aware of counting the 12 pins on the chain to set the timing. I set #1 valves to TDC and checked #6 at TDC. But having trouble setting the gears. Are the cam and the crank keys ways set at the 3 clock position looking from the front of the engine? Or is there another way to set the keyways on the cam and crank? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
