I have a set of stock cast iron manifolds going back on my 60 Starliner replacing the Red's headers. As the headers used the small head bolts, what can I use to install the stock manifolds? I read on here that they are 3/8 NC threads about 1-1/4" long. Is this correct? What grade should I use if I go to the hardware store? Flat washers or no washers? Also, what about the two studs connecting to the tailpipes as I want to replace those as well. No heat risers installed. Thanks

I use ordinary bolts for the manifolds with lock washers.  Bolt grade?  your choice.  You don't need grade 8.  Not sure on  the length, so check the length before tightening them up.  If the studs on the parts are in good condition, leave as is..  Get the spacer the stores sell for this purpose.  Sometimes  those studs are a bear to get out.

And get the brass nuts that are sold for these studs. They are longer than the usual steel nuts. I found some on ebay.if you can't source locally.  Just make sure you get the right thread  (coarse or fine) . 

There are pros and cons about using gaskets, so I won't make any recommendations but I always use them w/o any problems.

For exhaust manifold bolts, I prefer to use grade 5 and not grade 8 bolts.  If you ever need to drill out a broken bolt, much easier to do with the grade 5 (or less) bolts.  If using gaskets, try not to overtighten the bolts as that can distort the manifold and bring on some breakage at the ears.
