Looking for advice on how to remove the oil pan from a 56 Mercury engine installed.
I have found some information but wanted to determine if the pan should be moved forward or to the rear.

The oil pan should come off ‘forward’ but the sway bar may have to be unbolted and moved out of the way. I have found that having the crankshaft positioned so that the TDC on the damper is at the six o’clock position facilitates moving the oil pan forward.

Thanks for the advice. I actually found the process easy.  I removed the splash pan, torsion bar and set #1.  I raised the engine about 1 inch and the pan basically fell off.
I am now looking for a good place to purchase rod and main bearing inserts I believe both are standard.  Thanks Larry
