Greetings!
My name is Jerry and I somehow stumbled on to this site while sorting and cataloging dad’s Y Block magazine subscription. My father owns a 1939 Ford Deluxe Coupe which is powered by a 1957 Ford 312 Y Block. My dad bought this car when I was 18 months old in 1960. I have known this car all of my life. Dad is now in a nursing home and has dementia. As I have know this car all my life, I have become the caretaker of my father’s car. I have a lot to learn. I am 66 years old and I drove the car for the first time last year when they sold their house and I moved it to the garage of the assisted living facility. I’ll add more info in a future post as well as some photos of the car and engine. For now, I am doing my best to keep the battery charged and get it out every now and then to warm it up and drive it limited distance. Looking forward to learning more since my dad can’t connect all the dots any longer.

Glad you’re here. Sorry about your Dad, my late father went down that same road.
This is the right spot for the Yblock info, and a lot of related information. Just out of curiosity (since it’s a hot rod) has it got 40 juice brakes?
Might also help to add your general location. Sometimes there’s someone close, or a part available when you need one.

I’ll get some currently photos of the car and engine and start a new thread with all the details that I know about dad’s car. I have managed to locate and safely store a large amount of receipts and notes my dad saved to help me along the way. Other stuff I just seem to remember the stories when he would talk to people at local car shows.

As for brakes…….. Front has 66 Dodge Dart Disc Rotors and 4 pot calipers off a Mustang. They are mounted to the original spindles and front wishbone suspension. Rear are drum brakes on a 9 inch Ford rear axle with parallel leaf suspension. Master cylinder is dual reservoir mounted in the stock location under the floor.

Welcome. Sounds like you won't have to worry about brakes at all. What Transmission does it have?
Keep the valves adjusted right and drive it as much as you can. Maybe bring your dad for a ride, if you think it will be a good idea.
