I know it’s not a y-block question but figured I would get the best help here. Trying to help a friend who is new to our era of Fords. He has a 57 T-bird with what appears to be a 56 3 speed overdrive and wants to use an electronic speedometer such as Dakota Digital or Autometer. The problem is the pulse generator adapters that are available are for 57 and later trans and are different for the 56 trans. Any advice on where to get an adapter to work or how to get the 57 and up adapters to work in the 56 transmission?

The best bet is to contact the manufacturer of whatever speedo he buys.  When I went to electric speedo for my 48 (C4) I got the proper sender from the manufacturer.

They also make GPS Receivers for electric speedos and you can cut the transmission out altogether.  Won't have to worry about which gears you have/ need, either.
