I was having an issue with the CRT distributor rotating from its set point which I think I have solved. During the re-time the vacuum advance now throws way too much advance in. With the vacuum line unhooked & plugged total advance is about 38 degs at 3,000 rpm. With the vacuum advance hooked up total advance is 50 degs plus at 3,000. I recall that Ted posted that for the CRT vacuum advance to work correctly you have to take an allen wrench into the diaphragm inlet and tighten it all the way in and then back off some amount of turns. I have quickly looked for this post but didn't see it. I will look further back and try to find this post but any help would be appreciated.
Also, having the CRT parts bag out I find the piece below that I have never installed. Can anybody tell me the purpose of this piece is and should it be installed? CRT instructions aren't the best.

That plastic piece you pictured is a block off plate for the slot in the MSD / CRT / TSP distributor housings that is exposed when the vacuum advance chamber is removed from the distributor.  A racing application would be one of those instances and there are some other applications where the chamber will not fit depending upon the intake manifold and/or the vehicle in which the distributor is installed.  For most applications where the vacuum advance is not needed, the vacuum port on the chamber can simply be capped and plugged eliminating the need for the pot / chamber to be removed from the distributor.

Here are links to previous discussions about CRT / TSP distributors.
