I made a quick visit to El Mirage on Saturday during a return trip from Big Bear Lake for my wedding anniversary. The lakebed is only 45 minutes away from where I live, but land speed racing only takes place a few times each year. Although the SCTA canceled racing for Saturday because of the wind, I was able to spend some time with Tim McMaster and his 1962 F100. On Sunday, he did get to race the truck and went just a tick over 144 mph. I do not know if anyone else was there running a Y Block.
