Could I please ask for opinions of members on the Wix versus the Motorcraft oil filter for the Y Block screw on type oil filters. I ask because I recently had an issue with an AC Delco filter (not on a Y-Block) and am wondering if that production has gone off shore. Motorcraft still produced onshore? Anti-backflow feature of the Wix of any use on the Y-Block?

I have good luck with both the Wix and Motorcraft oil filters.  For the Fords, both of those oil filters incorporate valves to prevent the oil from draining back when the engines are not running.  That minimizes the period of time it takes to build up the oil pressure each time the engine is started.

I discontinued using AC filters when I had one that would drain back each time the engine was stopped for any extended period of time (overnight).  It was disconcerting to have the oil pressure gauge not exhibit any pressure for about four seconds each morning when the engine was started.  The next oil change with a new filter had the oil pressure rising as soon as the engine was started so the issue was with that particular AC filter having a faulty drain-back valve.

I do not use the Fram oil filters due to the inner cardboard cartridge collapsing thus causing a situation where the filter is either blocking the oil flow or no filtration is taking place.

Thanks Ted:
That's exactly the problem I am having w/ the AC. On a new filter & oil change, and with any length of time between starts, it has really bad lifter noise for a few seconds then stops. I had not watched the oil pressure during the start but will on one last start on the AC. I will change out the AC with the Wix.

You can see the anti-drain back on the Wix 1515 for Y-Blocks but I don't see it for the FL1A, is it deeper into the filter?

I usually cut open the filter can on every oil filter removed from my vehicles old and new. I will say the Motorcraft filters use stamped steel on each end of the element as stated above and the antidrainback valve is high grade, very flexible silicone material well fitted against the base. I never purchased an AC filter and found Fram to be of not very impressive quality with fewer pleats when compared to the Motorcraft filter. Also, I have found some anitdrainback valves made of  a material less flexible than the red silicone material used in the Motorcraft filter for what that may be worth . It has been quite a few years since I examined other brands of filters though.   Just my 2cents worth.............

Thanks to everyone that replied. For what it's worth attached is a picture of the base of the Wix on the left and the Motorcraft on the right. I put enough light on it and finally saw the anti-backflow in the Motorcraft.http://forums.y-blocksforever.com/uploads/images/f23e8568-e04f-4029-ad67-89b6.jpg

Wix will stop impurities as small as 5–15 microns in size.

There’s a discussion over on the Barn that started out as cam and lifters, but morphed into filters. Main point of interest being possible changes in WIX and where they’re made now.

Start down at post 16 to the end.

I went thru your link and it is scary. I still have the Wix in the box and will check it over carefully for the Made in China note; Thanks!

Miker.  Thanks for the link.  Great information on some of the Wix oil filter production going outside of the country.  Not surprised that the Napa Gold and the Wix filters were similar in performance as I’ve been told in the past that both of those filters come from the same manufacturing facility.  The testing helps to confirm this.

I looked at my inventory of Wix filters and all the Ford filters I keep in stock as well as the GM and Mopar filters all had “Made in U.S.A.” on them.  The Ford filters I use are the Wix 51085, 51515, 51372, and 57502 numbers.  Going thru my inventory I did find two filters that were made in Mexico with one of them being for a Honda Civic (and probably other Hondas) and the other was for a Kawasaki engine used on zero turn mowers.  Saw none being made in China.
