I worked the pan flatting the dimpled holes using the socket bolt washer technique. Using a straight edge on the dimples I get .017 - .016 feeler gage between the holes. The straight edge is flat end to end no rocker.
Does this seem right?
I keep wondering how it measured when new.

That is why a cork/fiber gasket is used.  It seals any imperfections in the fitment.  Just make sure that when you tighten the bolts that the gasket does not bulge out from over-tightening.  Joe-JDC

I think it's safe to say the die that stamped out the pan did not have .017" peaks and valleys forming the gasket surface. As Joe stated, the cork will compress to fill in some imperfections but cork doesn't have much of a memory. A more suitable material such as neoprene or silicone hopefully would last for many years. This material is available in various grades/strengths. Maybe there is a reason no one is using this, - comments welcone.   I plan to try this along with a couple other ideas soon. I'll  post updates...................

Regardless of the type of gasket used, I apply a thin film of RTV to both gasket surfaces (use the sealant of your choice)

the best gasket is .090  the gaskets I had made for my kit are.125and simelur texture.  the plate (water cut)helps the pan at the oil pump aria, with the plat  apples pressure via the ridges on the pan. the distorted bolt holes need  attention,especialy  at the oil pump aria that isnarow and  is always overtigktend. in addition I used hardened 5/16 flats between the plate and the pan at bolt holes. the 1s I sold hear in canada  also made sure rear seal holder bolts have plenty  sealers that is another spot for oil leaks. my own 292 has drips at alum oil pump gasket.  have a new pump (gear ) and cast iron.

I purchased one of these and I like it. I did have to grind the inner edge rear and outer edge left to make it fit now it lays right in there.
The instructions were good however hand written, print out would be better.  Yes gasket .125 
no problem with this item. My problems were pan flatness which I have corrected. 

Thanks for sharing information on the oil pan kit. .125" gasket may be all thats needed plus straightening the pan and the steel rail under the pan.
