Go to Summitracing.com. On the top right of their home page you will see a link called VEHICLE/ENGINE SEARCH. Search by make/engine. Enter Ford Y-Block, size 272 and select the part category on the left to filter the parts. This is one of the most helpful car resources on the Internet. You will see a number of fuel pump options including dual action pumps for those cars with vacumn wipers. I have a Carter single stage pump on my TBird engine and I have no complaints. Others may have their favorite.

Phil, what model Carter pump is that? I have an M6905 FE pump that will be installed during engine rebuild.

I honestly don't know as it's been over three years since I rebuilt my engine. I believe mine is a Carter M3553, but I am not 100% sure. I have heard from others that a FE pump will work. Some others have reported it will bolt up, but the lever may not be correct. If you want to make 100% sure, I would buy one of the dual action pumps. The major differences are in the bowl, filter or vacumn connections. Ted will know.

Be aware that the new double action pumps (Airtex in particular) are made in china and are junk right out of the box. In fact, the Tbird parts dealers do not sell new pumps because of this. \ You might want to contact Don Hyde at Ford Craft (972-432-4636 as he supposedly has a fix for them and may sell them.
If you have an old USA/Canada/Mexico pump, the best bet is to have it rebuilt. There are three or four rebuilders out there.
If you don't want the double action pump, a FE pump will work. I use a Carter M4008 which has a filter on the bottom on my 312 powered 54. Changed it awhile ago - it was made in china but seems to be working ok..
My feeling now is to find a old USA/Canada/Mexico pump and have it rebuilt for modern fuels.

I no longer have a need for a d/a pump, but I'll compare the FE lever to the one on the d/a pump I removed. I hadn't considered the need, but easy enough to do.

Although the d/a and FE fuel pump levers are shaped differently, the overall length looks the same. I searched Summit for Y-block pumps; they showed both levers, the application for some of which is for both Y-block and FE engines.
By the way, I could find no brand name/logo on my d/a pump, but "Made in USA is cast into the bottom and top of the pump. Sorry for not writing it down, but I think the part/model number also cast/stamped into the pump is 4406.

FE pumps definitely work. It may be that the lever shape is difference but the portion that touches the eccentric will be angled the same and in the same position. That is the important part. Product images don't always show the actual item. You can be looking at generic pictures.

The pump I mentioned above with the filter at the bottom will not work with an early Tbird

The problem being insufficient clearance for the filter?
