I know that my generator is fully charging as I tested the system with a voltmeter. However, the red generator warning light on the dash does not light up when the ignition is turned to the "on" position even though the bulb is good and the wiring to the bulb looks intact. This car had been previously converted to 12 volts with an alternator and the prior owner had cut a bunch of wires in the original harness to do the conversion. I am going back to 6 volt with a generator. Does anyone have a dash wiring diagram like the one which comes with the replacement dash harness so I can see how the generator warning light was originally wired and get it working again? You can email me with the wiring diagram or advice at alanfreeman54@gmail.com. Thanks

Take a look at this. DryLakesRacer mentioned them, and I’ve got one for an OT car. Buy the big one. Well worth the money. On mine the inset drawings include the dash. I expect this is the same, but I can’t expand it enough on a tablet to see for sure. https://classiccarwiring.com/products/1954-ford-cars-color-wiring-wiring-diagram

I don't have the actual 55 Bird wiring diagrams but the charge indicator light is wired (source) to the accessory terminal of the ignition switch, then to the armature terminal of the regulator. If the cut-out relay in the regulator is open, the indicator light will then be grounded through the generator armature, illuminating the bulb. See if you have voltage at the bulb and go from there. Take a look at most any Ford generator wiring diagram with idiot light to get a basic idea of the charging indicator circuit. Post some pics when you can - very interesting history of this Bird.

Thanks Dearborn. Using your advise, I a was able to locate a wire in the original harness that the prior owner had cut off when he changed to the alternator. I connected this wire to the armature terminal on the voltage regulator and the generator charging light now works correctly. Thanks again, Alan

Glad to hear it worked out even though in my brain was a 55 T-bird stuck in park.
