I wish to paint my 56 Merc 312  block the original color. The paint that is in place at this point is black.. My research tells me Gold is the correct color. Can someone give me a color code or source please?

Salt Racer     Engine is gold with a hint of yellow ,I just parted out a 1956 Mercury. The engine paint could of been faided a bit but it was orginal .  Harry Hutten Jr

I’ve had 2 occasions to look for that gold, one back in the late 60’s. The “mercury engine gold” was like hjh described. In my dim memory, and color isn’t my strong point, it was almost garish when fresh. 15 years ago when I built the engine in the roadster using a 56 Merc 312 block I went thru it again. No more 56 paint at the auto parts store, I finally settled on something a little less gold. For a code or reference you might try aaca.org, or ask on the Ford Barn if someone doesn’t come up with it here.

You might try Bill Hirsch in Newark, NJ for the correct color.  He has a lot of different engine paints, may have the Merc's.
