Will a fuel pump for a 1955 truck with a 256 y-block fit and work on a 272 eng?  I am thinking of buying the pump pictured in this link.  It looks like the pump on my 272, which has failed.    https://www.ebay.com/itm/334060924645?mkevt=1&mkpid=0&emsid=e11304.m43.l44813&mkcid=7&ch=osgood&euid=d9c11f56aa39426   any help is appreciated.  thanks,  Jim.

The 1955 256” fuel pumps will work on the 1955-1964 Ford car and truck Y engines.  Marine engines are not included in that statement as they tended to use the 1954 style fuel pumps for several years after 1954.  The 1954 Y fuel pumps use 5/16-18 bolts to attach them to the timing cover while the 1955-1964 car and truck engines use 3/8-16 bolts to attach the pump to the covers.  It’s difficult to see what size the fuel pump attachment holes are in the provided picture but it does look like a 1955 and up fuel pump.

Thank you Ted for that information. It is very helpful.  There are very few y-blocks left up here in Alaska to look at. most have gone to the crusher in the 90's when there was a huge statewide scrap drive,

i ran a fuel pump out of my brothers 460 ford engine till i got my vacuum wipers fixed  my understanding is ford fuel pumps are the same after the flatheads till at least the 80s  all fit except the modern cleveland blocks were different, the bolts on those went top and bottom not side to side

FE pumps have the correct arm profile and will pump fuel correctly.  Small block pumps don't have the correct arm shape and do not work properly.  Don't know about the others, but certainly not all the same.

Thanks Charlie, I am aware that the FE pumps work.  I am  currently using an FE pump on my 272 with 3x2  Holly "94"'s on an Offenhauser manifold.  It has run in this configuration for 5 years.  I recently changed the  Offenhauser manifold for an Edelbrock manifold and now I am having problems with one or more of the carbs flooding out the venturi discharge tubes.  I had a low pressure holley fuel pressure regulator on it.  I replaced the regulator and gauge with new ones, still had problems, so replaced the floats and tried several different float settings, with no luck, so change the needle and seats, and trie 3 different styles , no luck, changed to another new FE pump and still have problems .  I know these carbs do not like more than 2.5- 3.0 psi, and have the fuel pressure down as low as 1.5 psi. I have measured fuel pump output pressure and it is 7psi max while cranking.  I am trying to find an original  early single action fuel pump such as the one for a 55 Ford Truck with the 256 eng.  In pictures I have seen it looks like the one that was on my car originaly when I bought it, but it failed  ( the arm broke).  I want try the old y-block pum, thinking it may be limited to a lower output pressure.  Thank you for your help
