I am wondering if anyone has an idea on this one... the car is a 56 Mercury Montclair. When I leave my driveway and start up the hill, if I go slow, the thing runs out of gas before I hit the top of the hill. If I get on the gas right away, it goes just fine. When I dies, I see that the filter between the fuel pump and the carb is empty. The sediment bowl on the bottom of the fuel pump is full. I just replaced the pulsator diaphragm and it did the same thing. I can crank it over until the cows come home but it won't refill that filter. Let the car sit for about 15 minutes, pour a little gas down the carb and it starts back up and runs fine. Seems to only do this if I am just idling along up the hill. The fuel pump is the factory type, it is an AC 4206, with the glass sediment bowl on the bottom. Any ideas of how to trouble shoot this? Any help is appreciated.
