Hi. For some reason, I didn't see a torque spec for the rocker shaft cap bolts in the shop manual for my '54 EBU 239. Does anyone know what that should be?
The lock nuts for the rocker adjusters are supposed to tightened to 30-35 ft. lb.s I think. Thanks - Jim

I'm probably not using the right terminology. I don't have the shop manual with me at the moment.
The rocker shaft is held in place by what I'm calling caps, but they're brackets really. Two bolts each, except for the the locations that have studs (for the valve cover nuts.)
I need the torque spec for these bolts that fasten the rocker shaft to the head...if it exists. I didn't see a spec in the shop manual, but I may have missed it. Thanks.

In the TORQUE LIMITS (1954 FORD WSM) chart, look @ Rocker Shaft to Cylinder Head. I think that is what you want.

What size are the bolts? Shank size. Are they the same as in later Ys? For those, it's listed as 12 to 15 ft/lbs.

The‘57 Service Manual specifies 12-15 Foot-Pounds for the rocker arm support bolts (rocker shaft to cylinder head).

It might take a few heat cycles and cool downs for the bolts to stabilize, so re-torque or torque check them. 15 foot pounds is not a lot. If I'm thinking of the geometry correctly the valve lash clearance might be affected slightly until they settle down.

I was helping a friend put together a 312 and that question came up. Found it in the 56 shop manual, it was as Ted had noted.

Yes, I should've mentioned for the benefit of others that I found the specification in the '54 manual (addendum) where KULTULZ said, and the proper torque was 12-15 foot pounds like the other years' applications. I was looking for the number in the text because the rocker lock nut torque was stated there. It was in the spec section in the torque limit table, where I should've looked first.
