OK, my super 292 is almost ready to go into the car.  I have a couple minor missing pieces.  Where the heater hoses connect at the water pump and the intake manifold I have two 3/8 pipe threads.  I need a plumbing fitting that is 3/8 male to ?? male hose barb.   So what's the heater hose ID?  I have looked for this fitting in the restorers catalogs and find nothing so I expect I will get it from the plumbing store.

Also, need a similar if not exactly the same fitting for my vacuum booster hose.

I could go out to the garage and pull a heater hose off the existing fitting and spill anti-freeze all over the floor, but you guys are terrific at coming up with the answer while I sit here reading.

The Heater Hose is 5/8" Diameter. The Water Pump Fitting is available from most of the usual Suppliers like Tee-Bird.com. The Fitting on the Manifold is usually the Vacuum Control for the Heater or a manual Shut-off Valve so You don't get Heat from the Heater unless You open the Valve. Your local Parts Store should be able to get You One. 5/8 Hose x 3/8 Thread.

The water pump fitting ,mentioned above is usually a curved pipe fitting, about 5 inches long.

I found the curved fitting along with the shut off valve in a couple of catalogs.  I see no reason to use the shut off valve.  Can anybody explain why I need that?

Unless you have a control valve on the intake, the coolant will have a continuous flow through the heater core. Kinda rough in AUG. The manual petcock shutoff allows to to stop the flow to the heater core.

It is a JUMP-START SYSTEM. You have to jump out of the car to turn it on/off.

The need for s shut of depends on the heater system you are using.  If your car has the vacuum controlled valve that controls the flow of fluid of the heater core, then you do not need a shut off valve on the intake manifold.  Some cars have this vacuum operated valve on the manifold and other have this valve on or near the heater core.  If there is no valve controlling the flow, you will need to put the shut off valve on the intake to keep the cab from getting heat during the warm months.

I have the water control valve that has a cable attachment to the temperature lever on the heater control.  The guy who I bought the car from told me the heater control valve did not work but he bought a replacement which he gave to me.  The replacement appeared to be used.  So after spending about 40 hours to get the old one out, I sent the replacement to a rebuild shop just to make sure it worked before spending another 40 hrs to put it back in...
