...as Phil has noted it's sad to see so many mid 50''s Fords with various later engines installed, even in some cases in early T. Birds. This is part of the unfortunate legacy of events, such as the Y-Blk engine buildup done in Popular Hot Rodding way back, starting in 1970! There were several missteps in that project, the worst being that they chose to use an "Offy-tri power setup for the final tests. Unfortunately, that error was only discovered by Ted Eaton many years later, while testing seven (7) Tri power intakes for Y-Blocks. All of those setups did not test out the same, particularly the dog Offy intake. Other black eyes occurred when Ford dropped all further performance improvements after 1957, in favour of the F.E.series engines, even reducing cam timing & at 1957 end, Ford managment under Rob't McNamara, agreed to delete all high performance from their catalogues & drop all sponsor ship of racing, in an agreement with G.M. (they introduced the item) & Chrysler. He thought he was dealing with straight up people. Little did he know, that in the case of the 'Bow Tie brigade" they promply sent out all there hot stuff out the back door, to a company (iirc) called the Southern Engineering company, run by a fellow by the name of Vince Piggot. A mistake that would haunt Ford for some time to come... I'll leave it at that for now...
