Definitely use an in tank kit. On  my Carbureted F code (Carburetor ) I Simply cut the top out of a Ford truck tank and installed it in the top of a new 57 Ford tank. I have to run A return line with it.
I used an aftermarket Mustang Pump from Summit along with their regulator (pump is 43#, carb wants 7 max).
   You won't have to use the regulator with a compatible pump. Works like a charm, enough fuel, and no vapor lock, pumps last almost forever.
