Thanks for the Kudos.  That was a joint effort between Joe Craine and I.  In typical magazine fashion, Joe did not receive the credit in the byline as it should have read ‘Ted Eaton / Joe Craine’.  Although the 303” Y ran well at the EMC, it was down over 30HP when going from here to there.  Once we got it back on the dyno here at the shop, Joe and I found most of the missing 30 horsepower that mysteriously disappeared between here and Ohio.  A majority of it centers on the exhaust that hooks to the headers.  Just going to add that to everything else we learn in messing with these engines.

As a side note, the engine was tested last week with the new Mummert single plane intake manifold and if that had been available in time for the EMC, the 303” Y would have scored much higher.  There are plans to test the ‘came too late’ experimental camshafts also in the near future.  The engine at 10.4:1 compression ratio and iron heads is proving to be a very stout performer.

As a FYI, I just received a note from the company that owns Hot Rod Magazine that the Car Craft and Street Rodder magazines are being discontinued.  I subscribe to both.  TEN (the publishing company) is going to give me credit for the remainder of my subscriptions to one of their digital editions but not to any of the remaining hard copy magazines.  I would have preferred that the remaining subscription amounts to have just been transferred over to Hot Rod Magazine.  Unfortunately I just don’t have the time or eye sight for those digital magazines.  End of rant.
