For those of us that use the Rollmaster brand true roller timing sets because they permit us to degree in the camshaft operating event, you should read this article that Ted authored and appeared in Issue 151 of the March - April Issue of Y-Block Magazine.

IF this article has already been cited in a previous Y-Blocks Forever Forum submission, I think it's appropriate for me (who missed it!) to bring the subject to everyone's attention again.  Thanks to Joe Craine for his pinch bar modification recommendation to help prevent the problem from occurring due to damage to the timing chain when the timing set is removed to permit changing the timing set gear orientation for re-installation.

Great information.  I used a Rollmaster Timing set in my engine when I rebuilt it last year.  This issue could happen with some regularity.  During assembly, I had to pull the gears and chain off numerous times.  I can see how the roller chain could be damaged in the process, especially by someone who is used to stock chains. To me the roller chain looked fairly delicate, so I was extra careful.  I have at least 3,000 miles on my rebuild so far.  Hopefully, I don't have a chain failure in my future.

Man, I about had a heart attack when I started to read that! I just replaced the set a few weeks ago with a rollmaster, and at first thought there were defective units out there. It's a somewhat labor intensive job when all is said and done, at least with the engine installed. Don't pry on the chain and you'll be in good shape, duh! It's something to inspect before buttoning up for sure.
