Can someone tell me what model pertronix III (71281 or 71282) module I need for a 1956 Ford Crown Vic with a 312 yblock with an A1 Cardone 30-2808 remanufactured distributor which is the equivalent to the 1964 F100 yblock distributor? Pertronix tech said that he thinks the 71282 module is for the mid-fifties Ford yblock and that the 71281 module was for the later 1960s Ford yblock, but he isn't sure.

Thanks
Danny

Same as the small block for mechanical advance distributors so it should be 71281

The fact that the pertronix tech doesn't know sure doesn't do anything for my perception of their products and service.

I believe he reason he said what he did was for stock distributors; remember these reps talk to a lot guys trying to trouble shoot problems and poor installations. The "2" would be for a loadmatic. If you told him it was for a 56 but with a later distributor installed it could easily cause confusion since these parts are not a big seller. I've been to their place of business in Ca. and found them extremely helpful. They even figured out a system for my friends flathead and actually installed the parts while we waited.

The fact of the matter is that in this time period was so confusing as you had both 6V and 12V systems, POS and NEG GRD, and LOAD-O-MATIC and DUAL ADVANCE. Add to that most buyers have no idea of what they have and/or modified. And then you have a SBF DIST on top of it also.

I'd have to check and see if I still have the packet.. Been in for a few years now, been great ! Multi spark through the entire rev range and rev limiter good bang for buck.

Have You checked that Distributor for correct Dimensions? Or is it 1/4" Short?
