Just a quick question ,when I removed the pan from my 292 engine I noticed all the bolts holding down the bearing caps had lock washers except the last cap near the rear of the engine.

Strange. I have disassembled dozens of Yblocks over the years. I have never seen lock washers on the main caps. I have seen tin lock washers on the rod bolts. You learn something new every day.

I had the tin washers on the rod bolts four out of the five caps had splint ring lock washers the last had no washer. I did a search on the web and someone was selling bearing caps on eBay and it was the same set up as my engine.

If you go to eBay and run ford 292 main bearing caps you will see the lock washers also 8 of the bolts have the same marking on the head but the bolts without the washers have a different head altogether. The guy says it’s a Dearborn block I do not know if it means anything.

Maybe the Bolts listed in Catalog are replacement Parts for the Ones originally using Washers which do not use the Washers. Ted will know when He reads this Post.

I think the rear cap bolts have no washers because washers would make the bolt heads too tall to clear the aluminium rear seal retainer.

That Parts Book lists 2 different Bolts, One requires Washers in 8 Positions and another which is Self-Locking not requiring Washers. Differet Lengths also. 2 7/8 requires Washers. 2 3/4 Self-Locking.

Check your CAN ISSUE under BPN 6345 and see what it says for up north.
