Look at EDB- A and EDB-E on the below chart.

The ID No on the DIST will also help.

EDIT - ADDITION

Also, to help ID components correctly, in addition to the CASTING ID No, the CASTING DATE CODE, foundry and ASSEMBLY DATE STAMP will help greatly.

remember 292s and 312s where made in canada most in later years where for industrial use, fork lifts and lumber carriers where dominant hear in bc,many had odd heads for use in propane, huge intakes and sodeum exhaust valves. also lots of ys for australia where made in eastern canada in the end 350 chives replaced the ys mainly as parts dried-up after the ys where discontinued

Darrell; EDB blocks were used for some 312 Mercury's according to Mummert's info. I'll know more once I drop the oi pan.

Okay guys I got the motor and fo an extra $10.00 the tranny too, but I'm not sure if the tranny actually belongs to this Y Block. I have been searching the internet to try and I.D. the tranny, but can't seem to nail it down. The bell housing has the casting PAR-7975-A but doesn't look like anything I have seen on line. The transmission has no tag that I can find, but has the casting # PAW-7006-A.
I think it is a Merc-o-Matic, but maybe it's a Lincoln tranny. 1960 seems to have been a transition year. Any help would be appreciated.http://forums.y-blocksforever.com/uploads/images/30efe09c-6909-46d0-b3bf-26a9.jpghttp://forums.y-blocksforever.com/uploads/images/fd698ba2-9e90-43a3-932a-26ff.jpghttp://forums.y-blocksforever.com/uploads/images/e06e4410-2bac-4a29-ae12-d942.jpghttp://forums.y-blocksforever.com/uploads/images/62ac8044-c61e-42b4-ad40-e355.jpghttp://forums.y-blocksforever.com/uploads/images/55718134-cf7c-40e8-b2d5-0ef5.jpghttp://forums.y-blocksforever.com/uploads/images/5af26d6d-961c-4073-ae46-12f3.jpg

The motor seems to be a 1960  312 with the EDB block casting. I took a couple of pics of the crank flange but they are a bit fuzzy. It still looks like 1 small raised dot with a single half moon cut out on the flange. Valley pan looks like it has the original PCV valve set-up. Miker, send me a PM so I can get that to you if you want it.

If you get it post a couple pics. Nothing more fun than scoring and exploring a salvaged Y-block. Good luck.................
