Hello I am about to remove the engine and transmission from a 1956 Club Sedan the transmission has been unbolted from the cross member .My question does the cross member have to be removed or will I be able to slide off. Just attempting to save a few minutes I guess.

Cross member needs to come out, unless the front clip is off the car.

Put a Floor Jack under Transmission Pan with a Block of wood and lift it off Crossmember. If U still have a Steady Rest You may find it a little Tight as you bring the Engine forward. I unbolted the Cross Member on mine. 6 Bolts not a big Deal.

  

Front clip is off , I figured taking off the cross member was the way to go . I thought maybe there was a magic trick thanks

Not sure why You took front Clip off. I pulled Motor & Fordomatic together this Winter. Never damaged a thing going out or back in. The Leveler I bought was the Difference from last Time 10 Years ago.  

  

I took the front clip off to remove all the rust from all the tins that make up the front end also to replace the front fenders which were very rust with lots of rot . The car has been sitting since 1983 needs a lot of work.
