Newbie here with a question. I have a 6cyl 3speed clutch  zbar, 7 inch overall length. Can I shorten it and to what length for a v8. I'm building a 1954 Courier and using a 1954 mercury 256 cu engine with 3 speed from my stock 239 setup. The car has been apart for years and many of the parts have gone into hiding so the zbar is from a 53 6cyl. Hope this is the right place to post a question.
Thanks Rotten Roger

Looking at the parts manual, the six cylinder and eight cylinder z-bars are the same.  The bars themselves are year model specific so if adapting a z-bar from a different year, some modifications may be required.

While I agree with Ted that both 6 and 8 cylinder seem to be the same, if the Z bar is from a 53 then it may not fit as it has a different part number.  If the 53  does not work, I have a very good 54 Z bar for sale.  PM or email me

When I pulled the swapped out the 223 for a y block I kept the original z bar. Yours will be the same. All it needed was a adjustment.

The 55 Z bar will fit with no problems.  I used one of those on my 54.  If you  want dual exhaust with the factory manifolds, then the 55 works to clear the stock pipes.

I totally missed that you were using a 53 z bar. I would take up Paul's offer in the one he has for sale.
