The starter ring gear is welded to the flexplate on my water cooled fordomatic. Some of the gears are chipped and worn. Does anyone reproduce these as a unit - flexplate and ring gear? Can the ring gear be removed and a new replacement be installed?

The Ring Gear is on the Torque Convertor if You have the Original Type Fordomatic. 55-56. Has the Transmission been changed to later Fordo? If it is on the Convertor a replacement Ring Gear only is available from Tee-Bird for One. Footnote says "some Grinding required to fit properly." It is welded to Torque Convertor..

It has been said that since the starter engages the back (transmission) side of the ring gear if you replace the starter with a later FE type you will now be using the front (engine) side of the gear. The new gear reduction high torque starters also engages the front. Unless you are completely missing teeth 1 of these fixes may work for you
