I have a 1956 Victoria with a 292, auto trans. The trans is leaking at the front seal. Has anyone had any luck with a stop-leak product or should I just plan on dropping it and having it overhauled? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Is it something that could be done under a "shade tree"??

in most cases replacement of the seal is the only answer.

while it is out check the front pump, the bushing is often worn as well as drive tangs torqe to front pump, check this aria or you will be having leaks shortly after repair. this repair does not mean the trans is in need of overhaul. if it shifts well thats as far as you need go. just my exp.

Where would be a good source of an overhaul manual for this transmission?? Ebay Item 273279940911. The Front Pump Seal can be replaced easily once You have the Transmission out. I would suggest replacing the Shifter Arm Seal while U have it out. Shifter Seal # FO-15 from ATP includes the O ring as well as the Seal. Pump Seal # National 6988H. I have my Fordo out now to replace those Seals as well as the Seals in the Engine. My Project for the Winter.

Leaking trans seal. NOT A FIX but a Band-Aid I have used with mixed results. Your MILAGE MAY VERY. Lucas trans SNAKE OIL it causes the rubber seal to swell up and POSSIBLY stop your leak. Until you unload the car or FIX IT. Pete

Thanks Pete, I really didn't that stuff works but I never say "never". I've got the engine out of my boat right now, so the 56 will have to wait in line.
