Hi Guys,

I'm trying to put a new pump on my 54 Mercury Monterey coupe (256 Y Block). The pumps I order seem to be the correct shape but way too big. The old pump had a 4 in impeller, and the replacements look like a scaled up version with 4.5in impellers, so they won't fit. Am I missing something? Also the pump has 30151 stamped on it, any thoughts?

You need a 239/256 1st year water pump. What you have fits the rest of the y blocks.

If you are actually ordering it for a '54 but keep getting '55 and newer, then you will probably have to send your original out for rebuild.

It looks like Kanter Auto Parts shows a different # for 1954 as opposed to later Y Blocks which is what everyone else lists as being the same for 1954-1962. You might check their Website. Not cheap though. U might be better to get yours rebuilt and return if U find someone who does rebuilds.

B4A 8501-D 1954 239 PASS CAR

EAT 8501-B 1954 239/256 LT

NOS - https://www.rearcounter.com/B4A8501D-parts41233.html

The problem here is which engine you have, the DIF or CLV. Most of that  ID info was deleted from the 49/59 MPC FINAL ISSUE.

The 256 was supposedly CLV, so the B4A should be correct.

Excellent, Thanks for the help guys

It looks like there are 2 on Ebay. Listing 312319440442 and 163197792255. These 2 sellers know that they only fit 1954. All the others say 1954-1962 which is incorrect Application. Even Rock Auto lists it as the same for 54-62.
