I got my 55Tbird in 1962 and in my youth I decided it needed hedders. The TRY-Y used on the Shelby GT 350 was the high tech of the day so I bought some
from a car magazine ad. They do not use collectors just pipe to connect to the existing exhaust system.
They are Hedman and if I remember cost about $35. I installed them in the driveway.
After about 2 months the noise became too much and I put the original manifolds back on.
I occasionally see these mentioned as used by Edelbrock Sr on some of his builds and sometimes they seem to be a ledgend.

Now you’re being back memories. I had a set of those on my bird in 1968 or so. I also had a very similar pair from Red’s. Both used a kind of s shaped pipe from the header to the original muffler location.

Cool you’ve still got them.

I have a set I bought back in the day, but they were the ones that did not have the single outlet pipe, but were terminated ahead of the tri Y connection and had a flat plate with two outlets.  Also $35.  I used them on my 260 horse '56 T-Bird when I drag raced it with fabricated collectors with caps and connections to the mufflers.  When I built my first F code stocker, I inverted them and made fenderwell collectors.  I also still have them.

I have a pair of those 'hedders'. Dual tube like hoosier's that I bought from Honest Charlie in 1963 for the '57 Merc engine that I put in my '48 Tudor (took a chance that they would clear the frame rails and they did.) I also fabed my own collectors. I had everything metal sprayed with aluminum. They're still on the car and still work great.http://forums.y-blocksforever.com/uploads/images/f2db7c76-5205-400a-9af0-09fa.jpg

Here’s a set Hedman headers currently in the shop on an engine being worked on.  This engine is going back in a ’56 Customline Victoria when finished.
